The Power of Rome
Rome had achieved a pinnacle of power that no civilization had ever achieved after its conquest of the Carthaginians in the Punic Wars. The prize was complete control of trade and commerce in the Mediterranean. Its power stretched across three continents (Europe, Asia Minor, and Africa). However, after hundreds of years it eventually collapsed and failed. This leads us to the simple question, why? Is there something we can learn from Rome’s history that can help us make informed decisions for the future of the United States, or are we destined like every great empire before and after her to fail? We will explore many of these critical questions as we trace the origin of Rome to its development into a super power. We will learn about the development of Rome’s political and religious institutions and how those ideas will later impact our country and the world today.
